Teamwork starts with an individual approach and is built on personal skills. This is the philosophy that shapes our relationship with every young basketball player, both boys and girls.
The “Basketball Laboratory” project, initiated by legendary leaders of the Lithuanian national basketball team Rimantas Kaukėnas and Renaldas Seibutis, is coming to light. Basketball is constantly evolving—becoming faster, more physical, and increasingly dependent on individual player abilities. Developing this very element is the main goal of the project.
“Modern basketball is becoming increasingly dependent on individual play, where players must be able to create their own shot.” – said the founder of the Basketball Laboratory, R. Kaukėnas. – Basketball requires better technique and stronger one-on-one skills. This demands a higher level of individual preparation, which is exactly what we focus on during training sessions and camps.
The idea to start a project focused on developing individual skills came to R. Kaukėnas from his daughter: “A year ago, my daughter asked me to help her train. That’s how the idea emerged to expand this activity on a broader scale, involving well-known basketball players to help children improve their individual skills.”
It didn’t take Kaukėnas long to find like-minded people. — R. Seibutis had also been considering a similar project: “A couple of years ago, as my career was coming to an end, I had various thoughts about what to do next, but I knew for sure that once my health improved, I wanted to contribute to youth development. I received a call from Rimas (Kaukėnas), our ideas aligned, and that’s how the Basketball Laboratory was born.”
**Former players from Europe’s top leagues have already had the opportunity to test themselves working with young talents. The Basketball Laboratory, together with the Vilnius Basketball School (VKM), organized training sessions during school holidays—in November and December of last year, as well as January and February of this year. The initial trials were successful.** — more than 50 participants registered for the training sessions.
During training sessions, former and current professionals share their experience with young basketball players, including not only the well-known Renaldas Seibutis and Rimantas Kaukėnas, but also EuroLeague champion and former WNBA player Tanja Kostić, as well as LKL and EuroCup winner Povilas Čukinas. In the future, more figures from the basketball world will join the team, and guest participants will also take part in the training sessions.
20% of all funds collected from training sessions and camps will be allocated to charity.
